For everyone who has been experiencing problems with the ImageWriter LQ, Apple
announced a rework program for the printer today, 3/7. The rework improves on
problems involving print scrunching at the top and bottom of tractor feed
paper. This rework also improves on paper feeding. Tractor feed paper now
works well with any of the available methods. The other major improvement is
the noise level of the printer, the frequency of which has been reduced by
about 400 htz. This makes the printer seem much quiteter.
The rework program basically consists of having your dealer order a reworked
ImagerWriter LQ. When the dealer has it in stock, you return your old printer
and receive a reworked and reconditioned printer. This upgrade is free to all
ImageWriter LQ owners whose printers have serial numbers less than 183101013.
All later ImageWriter LQ's have this rework done already.
If the service technician at your local dealer does not know about this rework
program, have him call Apple Customer Service (Service Administration) for
details. This program does not involve the technician doing any work on the
printer. The entire rework is done by Apple and you will only be without a
printer for the amount of time necessary to take the old printer in for a
reworked ImageWriter LQ. Make sure to talk to the service technician before
taking a printer in. The dealer must order the reworked printer for the
exchange. They will not have printers in stock for you to exchange yours
with, though they may have new ImageWriter LQ's in stock.
